A Man’s Land

A Man’s Land focuses on pockets of territory in the Port-au-Prince region, surrounded by armed criminal groups, where the Haitian state and its residents still maintain a presence. Together, they establish lines of defense to sustain a semblance of daily life. These neighborhoods become closed-off spaces with shifting boundaries, both confining and protective, where life is lived in anticipation, vigilance, and close proximity to others. With this work, I do not seek to freeze Haiti in the violence that clings to it, but rather to give form to these spaces of tension and ingenuity, where life persists nonetheless.
